Snow is falling, and the temperature is in the teens here in northern New Hampshire. I’m sitting by the window, wondering what the next few months will bring.
With the Lancaster Farmers Market wrapped up and the Christmas season behind us, foot traffic at the shop (50 Main Street in Lancaster, NH) has slowed down quite a bit. That’s pretty typical for this time of year in a small town—but the quieter pace has given me the gift of time to think, create, and plan what’s next.
Lately, I’ve been working on a few new products, including a whipped body butter and a whipped tallow face cream. Now I’m brainstorming something new: a room spray to help chase away those winter blues. A few scent ideas I’m considering are geranium, rose, and even orange vanilla. What scents lift your mood in the winter?
A few customers have also asked for a natural deodorant, so that’s officially in the works.
Soap has been happening at least once a week—my curing shelves are full, and I’ll be boxing batches up very soon. And sugar scrubs are especially great this time of year. They’re perfect for tackling dry, flaky winter skin, and using one once or twice a week can make a big difference.
Funny enough, when I make scrubs, I usually bring home whatever is left over—so it’s never a full jar. Maybe with the next few batches I’ll finally set aside a nice, full jar just for me. I’m definitely like the shoemaker who never makes time for their own shoes: I’m always making products for everyone else and forgetting about myself.
This year, I’m going to be better about that—making sure I’m taking care of my skin, too. That said, I do try every new product I make to be sure it’s something I genuinely enjoy and would use myself.
